Marc Douglas Photography Frequently Asked Questions

How many wedding do you shoot during the season?

As of 2010 I will only be shooting 15 weddings a year. I put a lot of work into each wedding, and I want to be able to deliver my work back to the bride and groom as fast as possible. I also do at least one destination wedding during the season sometime.

How does it work for a destination wedding?

Destination weddings are typically charged the following way: cost of photography + travel, however there are ways to help keep the travel costs down. i.e. sharing your photographer with another bride going to the same location. I do have other suggestions as well, so email about any of your destination wedding questions.

What do you charge for Ontario travel fees?

I reside in Paris, Ontario. I do not charge for any travel within a 35km radius of Paris (this includes, Kitchener, Cambridge and Hamilton). Anything outside the area, please email me for a quote.

Do you have 2nd shooters or assistants at your weddings?

I have never found the need for 2nd shooters at my weddings, although I do always have an assistant with me. My assistant helps with my gear (my arsenal is always growing!). Helps setup and organize group/family photos as well as assists with off-camera lighting.

How many photos do I get with my wedding?

Every wedding is different. I shoot a lot and some shots are doubles or triples. On an average for a full day (10 hour wedding), I usually end with around 500 distinct high resolution photos.

When can I expect my photos?

Depending on what part of the season, photos can take up to 2 months.  I do my best to get them back to you as soon as possible.

What is the best photo location?

I get this question probably more than anything. Some people have their heart set on a particular location and that is perfect. I am always willing to offer ideas for locations or if I am not completely sure I can do some internet research. When thinking of a location, think about what best describes you as a couple. Are you outdoors/country? Side streets/city? Or something unique?

What camera equipment do you use?

I shoot with all Canon photography products. My prime camera is the Canon 5D Mark II. I always carry a 5D and a 20D. I have a variety of lenses and off-camera flash equipment that is all in constant use.

Do you do baby studio photography?

As of early 2009, I am not doing any studio photography. This is not to say I won’t in the future. My main focus is weddings and family outdoor photography.

Do you have any references?

On my website I have an area titled “Kind Words”. It is a collection of my client’s comments. If there is more you wish to discuss, further arrangement can be made.

What do I wear?!

This is the second most asked question. For engagement photos and family photography I always suggest solid colours. Anything with spots of stripes can really be distracting in the photos. Simple solid, I find is the way to go. Also please make sure it is comfortable. For engagement photos I always suggest bringing a second sweater or shirt. This isn’t necessary, but can help change things up if we need to.
